Classics: SG1 4:12 - Tangent

Overall Rating: 7.2

Effectively entertaining suspense/action episode with little in the way of external messages...though we do come to appreciate the camaraderie between the members of SG-1 again, and that is always fun.

Plot Synopsis:

The Stargate Wiki has the lowdown.

The Skinny:

If you own the DVD for this season and this episode...do yourself a favor and play the director's commentary track after you watch the episode once the normal way. Peter DeLouise is the director this time around and he's a SCREAM in the commentary. I especially love his bit about "joy paper." :D Oh...I'm supposed to comment about the actual episode...hm...well what can I say, really? It was a nice little 45 minutes of action and suspense as Jack and Teal'c find themselves totally boned and heading for deep space on a ballistic trajectory. And of course, Carmen Argenziano is the BEAST...love when he makes an appearance. "You can't just grab alien technology, slap a property of U.S. Air Force bumper sticker on it and call it yours!" Funny stuff.

This episode is nothing earth shattering, mind you...but it's well worth the viewing just so you can remind yourself how much the folks of SG-1 wub each other. Awwww. :) I also enjoy that they actually respected the time lag for signal transmission and had them sending messages by radio with multiple-hour delays...someone actually did their scientific homework! I really think this one is carried by individual acting performances, though. This one features Don S. Davis more heavily than usual (and he does brilliantly and is a big teddy bear, so we root for him!). Still and all, the dialogue wasn't all that awe-inspiring for the most part and there's only so much you can do with a slowly floating dead death glider.

Writing: 6.5

The plot is serviceable, if a tad on the gentle side for a near-death experience. The dialogue has its' moments.

Acting: 8.0

Yay for Carmen Argenziano and his interactions with Amanda Tapping (and yay for RDA playing punch-drunk from lack of oxygen with a bit of believable humor...LOL). Even Don S. Davis does some very good work when he believes Jack and Teal'c are lost. "Just let them sleep." You can feel the pain there. Good show.

Message: 7.0

They don't leave their people behind...even in the toughest of circumstances - a fact of which they remind Jacob Carter when he protests at their interference with an undercover Tok'ra mission. That's the basic contract you "sign" when you get into the armed forces...you'll risk your life for your country with the understanding that they'll do everything they can to keep you alive if it's at all possible.
