Overall Rating: 6.2
A par episode with one great scene.

The Skinny:
The very alien-like "queller demon" plot is very much ordinary as Buffy plots go. There's nothing wrong with this episode, by any means...it just isn't remarkable or particularly memory on its' merits. The dialogue is pretty utilitarian as well. However...I did want to mention one scene. When Buffy and Dawn bring their mother home and Buffy goes to the kitchen, auspiciously to do some dishes, only to blare the radio and give herself a moment to finally break down and cry her eyes out over her mother's condition, that is the kind of inserted scene that makes this show worth watching. The real human drama enters in, even when the story pitch is unremarkable and rather unemotional.
The bottom line, though, is that this episode is like a deep breath in before an aria or a calm day before a hurricane. It has to get done (to explain the lack of a million crazy nutjobs following Glory wherever she goes, to continue the foreshadowing of Riley's departure and the big reveal for Dawn, and to move forward Joyce's story), but no one will remember it (apart from the few moments within that stand out because they WEREN'T strictly necessary).
Writing: 5.0
This isn't exactly a triumph of writing genius. It is what it is...a simple, easy to craft script.
Acting: 7.5
SMG and Michelle Trachtenberg have some notable moments in this episode, but otherwise, it's just par for the course.
