Squee! (Or: The 2011 Emmy Awards)

Normally, I couldn't care less about the major Hollywood award shows. The Academy very rarely honors science fiction for the quality of its writing or its acting, so why should I get invested? However, today I received a rather exciting bit of news regarding this year's Emmy Awards (which were presented last night):

KYLE CHANDLER, A GENRE ACTOR, WON BEST LEAD ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES!

Granted, he didn't win the award for a genre-oriented performance. Friday Night Lights is about as "mundane" as you can get (though I've highly recommended it in the past precisely because Chandler's character is so wonderful -- and so well-performed). But still -- this guy was in Super 8 just this year and had the lead role in Early Edition (which we love with the fire of a thousand burning suns). As far as I'm concerned, he is truly One of Us. And now he has an Emmy to put on the mantle next to the Saturn Award he won in 1996. Squee!

Congratulations, Mr. Chandler. You've deserved that award for at least fifteen years.
